Bromley has been successful in securing a £1000 grant to support its teams in the London Youth Games. Guests including the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Pauline Tunnicliffe attended a celebratory evening held at the City Hall. Motivational speeches were made by 400m World Champion Christine Ohuruogu and former world indoor 800m medallist Jo Fenn, both former Youth Games participants.
The London Youth Games now entering its 30th year provided a sporting triumph for Bromley this year, being crowned the overall champions. More than 25,000 young Londoners compete in over 30 sports at the Youth Games with a large number of excellent performances by Bromley’s young talented sports people. With the additional funding we are able to focus on enhancing our disability teams, more specifically increasing participation and competitive opportunities in Boccia, Athletics, Swimming and Football as well as raising the profile and standard of disability sport in the borough.
Last year, the additional funding was used to provide more coaching opportunities for our disability swimming and athletics squad. This enabled more participants into the competition from main stream schools which had a considerable impact on Bromley’s overall score and contributed to our winning champion title.
