Q: Why are these sessions for women only?
A: The sessions have been set up in response to demand from female swimmers from beginners to experienced.
Q: Do I have to book?
A: No, you can just turn up on the day as it’s an open session for women.
Q: Would there always be a female lifeguard on duty?
Yes, the sessions will be supervised by a female lifeguard as some women feel more comfortable swimming in a female only environment.
Q: Are children able to attend the sessions?
A: Young children in the company of their mother, female relative/guardian will be welcome too, but in the case of boys only up to the age of 8.
Q: Are these sessions only open to Muslim women?
A: No, these sessions are open to any female who feels more comfortable exercising in an all female environment. We do not provide any public exercise sessions exclusively aimed at one faith, and indeed to do so could be considered to be discriminatory.
Q: What about a men-only session?
A: The women only sessions were piloted in response to a substantiated demand; if there is a genuine demand for men-only sessions then we will look to set up a similar pilot scheme.
Q: What if I can’t swim?
A: We offer a wide range of group swimming lessons for every ability including complete non-swimmers, as well as 1-to-1 lessons. Please contact one of our Swimming Coordinators for further details.
