Bromley opens new active lifestyle gym
20 November 2007

Bromley’s Mayor, Councillor Pauline Tunnicliffe unveiled the latest active lifestyle gym at the Walnuts Leisure Centre in Orpington last Friday (16 November).
The new and improved gym is larger than the original with 20 new exercise stations, a separate spinning studio, and new male changing rooms. The gym is designed to be welcoming and encouraging to new customers. It cost around £400,000 paid for by surpluses re-invested as part of Mytime’s unique partnership arrangement with Bromley.
Services offered include lifestyle assessments and comprehensive exercise advice; 1-2-1 personal training options; group exercise – a wide range of over 40 exercise programmes for all ages and abilities; and exercise referrals programmes for people with medical conditions.
The Mayor, Councillor Pauline Tunnicliffe said,
“It’s great to see new services like this being introduced to help everyone stay fit and healthy, and to appeal to older and non-sporty people who are encouraged through Primetime activities, or referred to exercise by their GP. For the non-active this new gym is brilliant as it’s designed to accommodate first timers as well as experienced fitness users.”
Bromley Mytime’s Chief Executive Steve Price said,
“This new gym will really help many more people get the active lifestyle habit. We’ve got special programmes from teenagers to 60+, for all abilities and ages, and for people who may be at risk of obesity or illness. This new gym is for everyone to benefit from safe exercise, and its quality and staff are as good as the private sector.”
The opening also saw the Bromley branch of Diabetes UK, the Mayor’s charity for the year, raising awareness and funds alongside snapshot MOT health checks on offer to everyone. For more information visit

The gym is the latest in a series of leisure improvements now valued at over £4 million achieved since the unique partnership between Mytime and Bromley Council was set up in 2004.
