18 March 2008
A local photographer, Bob Tuthill, won a commission to provide a photographic mural at the Spa at Beckenham. The wall in question is a 100 square metre area and the brief for something potentially 3D, around black and white photography with a possible people theme was given by Kiaran Hall, Arts Development Manager for Bromley Mytime.
This initial brief was given at the end of January and the completed work had to be in place by the Grand Opening on the 8 March, leaving just 6 weeks in which to do it!
The newly formed Bromley Creative Community Group which is a group of members that was formed to
offer creative services and products to the local area was asked to take a look at this project and various ideas were submitted. The final accepted idea was by photographer Bob Tuthill.
Beckenham photographer Bob Tuthill provided a visual idea to Bromley Mytime of a concept of family life
entitled “Happy and Proud”. This consisted of 6 large photographic panels with each panel featuring a
different subject reflecting the happy and proud theme. The 3D effect was created by supplying cut out
black and white photographs mounted slightly away from the main panels but again featuring the family concept. The photographs were of families who live in and around the Borough of Bromley. There was also a slight touch of an underlying sporting theme to the visuals.
The large mural was finaly in place by Thursday 6th March and the Spa was opened by Jacqui Lait, MP for Beckenham on Saturday 8th March as planned.
