10 February 2006
Peter Norfolk MBE visited the Wheelchair Tennis Open Day to test purpose-built facilities and give advice to disabled people keen on the sport.
Norfolk has won eight Super Series titles, equivalent to Grand Slams, but his highlight was triumphing at the quad singles title in his Paralympic debut in Athens in 2004.
He said: "Wheelchair tennis is a wonderful, all-inclusive sport which can be played and enjoyed at all levels, from recreation through to international competition. There is only one major difference between wheelchair tennis and the mainstream game being a wheelchair player is allowed two bounces of the ball."
Bromley Tennis Centre is a state-of-the-art indoor tennis centre unique to the region, just 10 minutes from Orpington and Bromley town centres, if you would like to get involved with the sport call the Centre on 01689 880407.
