Our People

Dennis Barkway CBE - Chairman

As well as a career in the City from 1948 to 1986 Dennis Barkway became a Councillor in 1968, representing Hayes Ward in Bromley. In his capacity as Councillor he chaired various committees and was elected Leader of the Council, a post that he filled for some 19 years in total. 

He became Shadow Trust Chairman in 2003 and steered negotiations with the Council to successful establishment in the following year. His Chairmanship has included many awards for quality services, and leading the Board of Trustees through various development and improvement initiatives.

He also continues to serve on a number of charity committees and appeals, raising significant sums.

Steve Price - Chief Executive

Steve Price became the Chief Executive of Bromley Mytime after a successful career in recreation management with various metropolitan and unitary authorities. Prior to the trust he was Chief Recreation Officer for Bromley and led the Council’s successful investment programme in sport. This resulted in new and redeveloped leisure facilities to the extent that Bromley now has more pool and sports spaces than any other Borough, making it the most popular for sport, reflected in numerous management and quality awards including an excellent 3* service award under the Audit Commission’s Comprehensive Performance Assessment. Steve leads on all strategic and management issues for Bromley Mytime with an annual turnover of over £13m and a staff of 1000.

Paul Brivio - Operations Director

Paul has over twenty years experience in sports development and leisure management operating at local, county, regional and national levels. As Head of Development for Sport England he led government initiatives including the setting up of the new Sports Action Zones and Positive futures in conjunction with the Home Office.

Paul now leads the development and delivery of the new Mytime brands across 17 sites pioneered by our dynamic sports, arts and play development teams. Our work is nationally recognised for excellence, high standards of customer service and partnership working.

He works as a consultant to emerging sports partnerships in London, and supports developing leisure trusts and innovative physical activity/health promotion ventures operating across the country as part of Bromley Mytime's business development strategy.

Previous to this he has run his own consultancy business providing interim management, project management and expert advice to clients including LB Enfield, Kent Youth Offending Team and Bromley Mytime during the transfer process from the London Borough of Bromley. 

Brian Turpin - Head of Communications

Brian has twenty years experience of marketing and communications management in the local authority and not for profit sector.  He has led on many consultation and communication programmes for new leisure developments, performance reviews, the production of Bromley’s Cultural Strategy, and the establishment of a charitable trust for delivering leisure services. He is an experienced facilitator and conducts numerous focus groups of both customers and non-users to inform service reviews and improvements.  He leads on all communications with both customers, partners and stakeholders to build Mytime's reputation as a responsive and listening organisation.

Paul Shipley - Head of Group Operations and Improvement

Paul has 15 years experience of Facility / Operational management in local government and not for profit sector. He was awarded the top student award by the ISRM in 1995 and completed his post graduate Diploma in management studies at Christ Church university college in Canterbury.

During the 90’s he successfully tendered and operated facility management contracts in Surrey, where he led various teams to achieve high standards in quality and customer services, which were acknowledged with the prestigious Charter Mark, BSEN ISO 90002 and Quest awards. 

He moved to Bromley in 2001 to assist with the set up of the Leisure Trust and the return of the main Leisure Centres from the then external management contractor.

His priority is to deliver and invest in high quality services to encourage more people to participate in activities by developing new products and services whilst continuing to improve standards.

Louise Milne - Regional Operations Manager

Louise has over 15 years experience in the leisure industry in both operations and sports development. Louise led on the production of sports strategies, business and policy planning, has achieved many successful funding applications bringing in over £5m into sports facilities the borough. Her priority is to encourage more people to participate in physical and creative activities by developing new products and services whilst continuing to improve customer services.

Patron - Paul Elliott MBE

Paul had a successful international career playing professional football for various clubs including Charlton Athletic and Chelsea and represented England both at youth and senior levels. Paul is a high profile advocate for equality and is a sought after spokesman on sports and social issues in the media.

Trustees

Christine Whatford CBE

Christine Whatford  retired as Director of Education and Leisure with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.She is Chair of the UK UNESCO National Education Committee and member of several government initiatives on social exclusion and children’s rights.

Christine is married with children and grandchildren and lives in Beckenham.

Keith Morley

Keith Morley has twenty years experience as a Human Resources Director for NatWest and change management consultant in various roles in the UK and USA.He is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development.

Keith is a keen cricket fan, both as player, coach and umpire, and is interested in musical theatre.He is married and lives in West Wickham.

Alex Warner

Alex Warner is the Managing Director of Greyhound UK Ltd, a subsidiary of First Group plc and sister company of the iconic Greyhound bus organisation in USA. He is also First Bus' Business Director and has extensive customer service, commercial and marketing experience, predominantly in the transport industry, previously as Customer Services Director for Midland Mainline train company and Retail Director for South Eastern Trains. Alex has headed up the Stansted Express rail business and also held senior posts at British Airways, London Underground, South Central and Strategic Rail Authority.

Alex is a lifelong Orpington resident and lives there with his young family.

David Pickup

David Pickup was a senior official in both the Civil Service and local government before being appointed Director General of the former Sports Council for Great Britain.Following retirement he remains active as a member of the London Federation for Sport, and as a writer.

David is married and lives in Bromley.He has 3 sons and 8 grandchildren.

Rob Higgins

Rob Higgins is the Headteacher of Charles Darwin School, which has been awarded both the Arts and Sports Mark, and is committed to developing community links for education.

Rob lives with his family in Bromley.

Len Tutt

Len Tutt served on Bromley Council for several years and among many positions held, he served on the then Leisure & Community Services Committee.Len is a keen golfer and bowler and is a Life Vice-President of the Amateur Football Alliance.  He lives in Bromley and is a Council nominee to the Board.

Councillor Nicholas Bennett JP

Nicholas Bennett had a professional career in education before being elected as MP for Pembroke in 1987 and appointed a Minister at the Welsh Office in 1990. After the 1992 election he was adviser to Price Waterhouse and Chief Executive of the Association of Consulting Engineers. He currently is Managing Director of his own property company and a JP. He lives in Bromley with his wife Ruth who is also a local councillor, and their three cats.

Michaela Nuttall

Michaela Nuttall is a cardiac nurse specialist with a research background specialising in managing and reducing risk of coronary heart disease and other conditions.Having practiced and trained at various London teaching hospitals she is now the CHD Co-ordinator for the Bromley Primary Care Trust, and is a passionate supporter for active lifestyles to prevent disease in later life. Currently she is a council member of British Association for Nursing in Cardiac Care, on the advisory board of the Diabetes, CHD and Stroke Prevention Pilot (National Screening Programme) and is the Chairman of the Prevention Group of the South East London Cardiac network.She lives with her young family in Forest Hill.

Mark Oakley

Mark Oakley is a partner with law firm, Judge and Priestley based in Bromley. Mark specialises in commercial litigation including property disputes and also helps manage the company.

Mark has a general enjoyment of sport and regualrly plays golf and cricket. He lives in Sydenham.
