Councillor Colin Smith joined local MP Jacqui Lait in officially opening the new £1.3m active lifestyles gym and buzz zone at the Spa at Beckenham last Saturday 8 March.
Funded by Bromley Council and surpluses generated through charitable leisure trust, Bromley Mytime, new services include an active lifestyle gym, buzz zone children’s play centre and new exercise studios. Record numbers of customers have attended the Spa since the new services were opened.
The improvements mean more activities for everyone to choose from in new and improved exercise studios with sprung floors, mood enhanced lighting and integrated sound systems. Residents can now choose from a wide range of activities including yoga, pilates, dance, aerobics and aqua aerobics and ante-natal classes. Gym users have easier access to a wider range of equipment, new exercise stations and a spin studio. The new gym has improved air conditioning to improve comfort levels and state of the art audio visual entertainment screens.
Councillor Colin Smith, Executive Councillor for Environment and Leisure said, “These improvements have brought the Spa completely up to date and if you haven’t visited for a little while, you might want to take the opportunity to see the improvements that have been made. The Council has invested a significant amount of money in partnership with Bromley Mytime to improve these leisure facilities and the results are obviously a welcome improvement to the leisure facilities in Beckenham. This shows both the Council and Mytime's commitment to making 'Healthier Lifestyle' options available to all Bromley residents"
The new look Spa is designed to help young people stay fit and healthy, but also to appeal to older and non-active people who are encouraged in through Primetime activities for 60+, or referred or recommended to exercise through their GP – for non-active people the new gym is designed to accommodate first timers as well as experienced fitness users.
Children and families are not forgotten with a brand new buzz zone with space themed climbing and adventure play frame, party rooms and café for parents and carers. A crèche and toddler areas cater for very young children and there are hundreds of classes and activities for children and teenagers both in the holidays and term times.
Steve Price, Bromley Mytime’s Chief Executive said, “The new Spa is for everyone from the very young to our senior Primetimers and we want people to feel welcome to come along and enjoy a more active and healthy lifestyle. Our customers have been saying for some time they needed better quality and more family and health related activities and they’re already telling us how much they like the new improvements.”
