Equality and Equity
We live and work in an increasingly diverse society and therefore recognise the need to review our service provision continually. When necessary, we will make changes to ensure that services are available to all customers. Bromley Mytime endeavours to understand what is important to our current and future customers, to provide our services appropriately and aspire to make ongoing improvements.
Equity is about fairness, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing our culture and structure to ensure that Bromley Mytime is equally accessible to all members of society,
To show Bromley Mytime’s commitment to equality of opportunity for all, the Board of Trustees adopted an Equal Opportunities and Equity policy in September 2006. This commits the organisation to ensure that no existing or future customers, employee or volunteer receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, pregnancy, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief.
We are committed to promoting and developing equity, both within our programme development and in our work with partner organisations.

Bromley Mytime recognises that it is all very well to have policies and plans, but the true test of equality is ultimately only measured through delivery. The following examples highlight some of work that Bromley Mytime has undertaken in the last year to show that our commitment is real:-
- Accessed £4,000 from Capital Radio’s Help a London Child to develop family splash sessions for children with additional needs and their families. Monthly sessions established at The Spa and West Wickham LC
- Increased the number of swimming lessons for children with additional needs from 1 to 5 lessons per week.
- Balfour Beatty grant of £1,000 was used to coach and train London Youth Games (LYG) disability squads as a result of which 88 disabled participants took part in the 2008 LYG (10 more than 2007) contributing to our overall success winning LYG.
- Established a monthly Buzz Zone session for children with autism and their families at Walnuts LC and Adventure Kingdom continues to deliver monthly exclusive sessions for children with additional needs.
- Worked with 3 special schools including Marjorie McClure School where we are running an after-school music technology club as part of ArtsTrain project and the Glebe School where we delivered 23 hours of dance.
- In partnership with Mencap organised a 2 hours sports event at Walnuts LC for 6 students and 7 buddies, activities included table tennis, boccia and short mat bowls.
- £1,907 sponsorship money raised from the Mini Marathon for disabled young people in the borough.
- Child Protection Policy reviewed to reflect London Safeguarding Children’s Board Protection Procedures and to incorporate Vulnerable Adults.
- Reviewed Leisurecare (our programme for adults with learning disabilities) and improved operational aspects of the programme.
- Delivered 12 hours of visual arts workshops for MIND clients.
- Implemented a “buddy” scheme in partnership with Kent Association of the Blind, to provide gym opportunities for visually impaired customers.
- Improved the Mytime website making it easier for visually-impaired people to use by increasing colour contrasts in places where it was highlighted as poor, providing different style options and making changes to document structure to ensure that it can be read by JAWS screen reader. Other changes will also make it easier for keyboard only users to view the website.
- Exploring ways of supporting LBB with PIE (People into Employment) initiative. Our vacancies will be advertised via their newsletter and the first work experience student is being place at Linden House.
