Club Development Grant Scheme 2008-09

Funding opportunity for Bromley’s Sports Clubs

Local sports clubs are invited to apply to our 2008-9 club development grant scheme. The scheme is aimed at supporting local sports clubs who are committed to increasing participation, attracting new members and raising performance standards.

Grants will be awarded up to the value of £1,000. In exceptional circumstances £2,000 can be sought, for example in conjunction with other funding applications such as Sportsmatch.

Crystal Palace Triathletes, who were recently awarded a grant of £1000, said, "This is fantastic news and the funding will help ensure that the club’s junior section can get off to a great start and will hugely benefit the children in the community.  We are very grateful for Bromley Mytime's assistance and support and this will make a real difference in helping to encourage and support children to become involved in sport locally which will ultimately benefit the community as a whole."

Who is eligible?

Any sports club based in the London Borough of Bromley and a member of Sport Bromley, or agrees to join at the point of application (£10 p/a).

Previous successful grants have included contributions towards revenue costs such as venue hire, equipment, coaching costs, marketing material as well as capital costs such as handrails to make facilities more accessible.

Alison McCann, Sports Development Officer said “We have given over £20,000 of funding to a total of 22 clubs over the last couple of years which has really made a difference to encouraging more people to take part in sport and to join local clubs”

Here are a few examples of how clubs have benefitted from Bromley Mytime funding:

Darwin FC

In one year the club have gone from 5 to 8 boys teams and developed 2 new girls teams, doubling the number of juniors registering with the club. Bromley Mytime funding grant enabled the club to purchase fold away goals, kit and training equipment for the girls teams.

Bromley Outdoor Bowls Club (BIBCOS)

The grant from Bromley Mytime enabled the club to install safety handrails around the bowling rinks therefore improving accessibility for all members

Orpington FC

The funding from Bromley Mytime enabled the club to deliver free coaching sessions for girls, with over 50 girls attending. The club have now set up a new girls team and recruited players and their families, who are also volunteering and coaching.

Old Wilsonians Colts Cricket Club

The funding contributed to the cost of a new moveable synthetic cricket pitch which helped participation levels enormously with 50 new members joining. It also meant that juniors are able to practice under match conditions with tangible results with 12 juniors representing the borough and one cricketer being selected to represent Kent.

Kemnal Table Tennis Club

The funding was used to cover coaching costs and flyers to promote a week of free table tennis. 79 juniors attended, the majority of which continue to attend on a regular basis.
