Bromley's successful London youth games team were honoured at a civic reception last Wednesday 15 November. Bromley's teams finished in fifth place with 1104 points at the summer finals, just 7 points from a silver medal position. Bromley's athletics team won gold for the sixth consecutive year and the badminton and hockey teams also won their respective events held at Crystal Palace Sports Centre in the summer.
Paying tribute to the young athletes, patron of Bromley Mytime, Paul Elliott said, "This is an excellent result by any standards, and I'm sure that some of the young people here today may go on to represent their country in London in 2012." Paul went on to thank the families and team managers for their support throughout the year. Over 100 young athletes and their team managers and families attended the event held in the Old Palace at Bromley Civic Centre with the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Charles Joel, councillors and Bromley Mytime trustees.
Bromley Mytime recently launched the Academy Card aimed at elite sportsmen and women giving free access to Bromley's leisure centres ensuring Olympic hopefuls have access to local training facilities and achieve their full potential.
