Arts Project For Mottingham

25 May 2006

The mural, located by the Co-Op supermarket, will reflect the local community of Kimmeridge Cross, Mottingham. Leading local artist Julian Phethan of ‘Positive Arts’, will be running a series of workshops over the next four weeks with young people and local community groups to design and develop the permanent artwork depicting local people, shops and significant buildings and surroundings.

Colin Bloom, executive councillor for local economy said: “Local shopping parades such as Kimmeridge Cross provide an important hub for local communities, and I am keen to support local traders with projects such as this, that make visiting the parade a more enjoyable experience."

Clare Haward, Bromley Mytime Arts Manager, said; “Artistic projects such as this play an important role in uniting local communities. It has highlighted the passion the people of Mottingham have for the arts and the design of their environment. The interest generated for the mural has been overwhelming, hundreds of people have been involved and there’s a real buzz of anticipation.”
