Active Boost is a family based programme which has been specifically designed for treating overweight 4-6 year olds.
The courses last for a total of 12 months and each session contains fun guidance and activities on nutrition, physical activity and tools to help behaviour change to promote a healthier lifestyle for all.
The 12 month programme begins with an initial measurement and goal setting session, where your child will have their height, weight and other measurements taken by a qualified dietitian or physical activity instructor. These measurement sessions will be repeated during the 12th session and at 6 and 12 months, they are approximately 20 minutes in length.
Following the initial appointment there are 10 weekly sessions, 1 1/2 hours in length. The first half hour is spent with children and parents together learning about helpful foods, helpful habits, understanding food labels, energy balance and the Eatwell plate through fun activities, games and quizzes. During the next hour, parents attend a 40 minute nutrition workshop during which issues on diet and behaviour are discussed in more detail with a dietitian and the children spend 40 minutes playing games and learning about how to be active everyday. The final 20 minutes is spent with children and parents being active together with a physical activity instructor.
There will then be three fun days at 3, 6 and 12 months, which provide an opportunity for the group to meet up again, monitor goals and take measurements.
