Brisk walking that gets the arms swinging and the heart pumping is a great total body workout.

Walking can be done at any time, is free, and the only equipment you need is a decent pair of footwear.

And if thats not enough, here are some more benefits:

It's fun and suitable for everyone
It can help you manage your weight
It helps protect you against other conditions which may cause ill health, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease
It's a chance to meet new people

Weekly Walk Active Health Walks

Our Weekly Health Walks are situated at various locations across the borough and usually start from central points such as community centres, clinics or GP surgeries. Our aim is to get people walking in their own environments.

Volunteer Walk Leader

If you enjoy walking, are reliable and outgoing then you could be ideally suited to become a Volunteer Walk Leader.

Being a Volunteer Walk Leader provides the opportunity to make a real difference to peoples’ quality of life. This can be achieved by enabling them to increase their physical activity through walking in sociable led groups, in the green spaces within their local environment. The walks are aimed towards people who do little exercise or who live in areas of poor health. They are suitable for people with a range of abilities.

What does it involve?

Volunteers are given a days Walk Leader training run by trainers from the national Walking The Way To Health Initiative, and also offered training in Emergency First Aid.
On a walk they would need to take a register, get new participants to fill in a Health Walk Questionnaire and generally supervise the walk. You can lead as many or as few walks as you wish, and when not leading you can obviously attend as a participant. Volunteer Walk Leaders are insured for both personal accident and public liability.

To be a part of Walk Active and help others enjoy the social and health benefits of walking, contact events coordinator on 020 8323 1718.
